Posted May 16, 2011 -Some spoofs take more preparation than others. Such was the case of one school's custodian’s introduction for new teachers. With great flare he had crafted and introduced to each new teacher an “instrument” that resembled a French Horn. Each was encouraged to play this unique instrument by blowing with great gusto into the mouthpiece. A mediocre attempt would yield no result. However, a really strong gust of wind would result in the “Instrument” which had been filled with flour discharging the contents in the prospective musicians face. The white face with a large smile and the applause and laughs of other staff members usually indicated the success of the initiation.
This page of our website, in keeping with the warm and friendly atmosphere of The Bear Sleeps Inn, will be dedicated to the stories that have long set Newfoundlanders and Labradoreans apart. This is meant to be your page, filled with "true" accounts of the ''kinds of fun, jokes and tricks" that Arthur Scammell referenced in the "Squid Jigging Ground". You are encouraged to submit your stories to the e-mail address above. We will post as many of these, as time and space permit.
